AI SEO and GEO audit methodology: how iasyo measures your visibility

iasyo asks AI platforms the questions your customers ask them, in your language: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Google's AI Overviews. Each question is asked several times. iasyo records who is mentioned, in what position and based on which sources, then calculates your score out of 100 using the formula published here.

The questions we ask AI platforms

Everything starts from your website. iasyo identifies your business, your products or services, your area, your language and your platform. An AI then works out the questions your customers really ask, and you approve them before the first measurement.

  • How many: 5 for the free audit, up to 30 for the full audit, 15 for the Essential plan, 25 for Monitoring 25 and 50 for Monitoring 50.
  • What kind: about 8 questions out of 10 don't mention your name, because your future customers don't know you yet. The others are about your business.
  • Which language: each question is asked in your language and, where the AI platform allows it, from your country.
Type of questionExample, for a fictitious joiner in Lyon, France
DiscoveryWhich craftsmen make wooden staircases near Lyon?
ComparisonBespoke kitchen or flat-pack kitchen: which should I choose?
ProblemHow do I fix a creaking wooden staircase?
BrandIs Atelier Dumont a good choice for a bespoke kitchen?

Your competitors: iasyo spots them in the first AI answers, then you confirm them: 1 for the Essential plan, 3 for the full audit and Monitoring 25, 5 for Monitoring 50.

Your reference sheet: your real information, such as services, prices and address. iasyo uses it to spot inaccurate information in AI answers.

The AI platforms we query, and how

AI platformHow iasyo queries it
ChatGPTIn its real interface, just like your customers
GeminiIn its real interface, just like your customers
PerplexityThrough its official developer access, which works like the consumer service
ClaudeThrough its official developer access, with web search switched on
Google AI OverviewsCollected from Google results, for the full audit and monitoring

The free audit queries ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude.

Each question, asked several times

An AI never answers in exactly the same way twice. For a reliable measurement, iasyo asks each question several times: 3 times for the full audit, once for the free audit, twice every week for Monitoring 25 and Monitoring 50, twice every month for the Essential plan. Each measurement gives a snapshot at its date; together, they show the trend.

If an AI platform is still unavailable after a retry, the score for the period is calculated on the other platforms, and your report says so.

What iasyo records in each answer

An AI reads each answer and extracts:

  • whether your business is mentioned, in what position, and whether the AI explicitly recommends it;
  • the competitors mentioned;
  • the tone, with the exact sentence that justifies it, which you can flag if you think it has been misread;
  • the sources cited, classified as your website, a competitor, a media outlet, a forum, a directory or a marketplace;
  • inaccurate information, compared with your reference sheet.

The metrics

MetricWhat it measures
Visibility rateThe share of answers that mention your business
Average rankYour position in the answer, when you are mentioned
Share of voiceYour share of all mentions, compared with your competitors
Citation rateThe share of answers that rely on a page of your website
ToneHow AI platforms talk about you

Each metric is broken down AI by AI and by type of question, with its trend.

How the score out of 100 is calculated

Your score adds up two parts: your presence in AI answers, out of 70 points, and the technical readiness of your website, out of 30 points. The metrics are calculated AI by AI, then their average goes into the score: each AI platform carries the same weight. For AI Overviews, only the questions for which Google shows an AI overview count; your report shows how many there are.

ComponentPointsCalculation
Visibility rate3030 × the visibility rate
Share of voice1515 × the share of voice
Citation rate1010 × the citation rate
Rank1010 × the rank factor × the presence coefficient
Tone55 × the tone factor × the presence coefficient
Technical readiness30The points from the technical audit
  • Rank factor: 1 when you are mentioned first, then 0.2 less for each position, down to a minimum of 0.2.
  • Tone factor: the average across the answers that mention you, with 1 for a positive answer, 0.5 for a neutral one and 0 for a negative one.
  • Presence coefficient: your visibility rate divided by 50%, up to a maximum of 1. Rank and tone therefore count fully when you are mentioned in at least half of the answers, and proportionally below that.

The score is rounded to the nearest whole number. The same calculation applies to your competitors, so you can compare yourself with them.

An example calculation

Atelier Dumont, the fictitious business in the sample report, in October 2026:

ComponentMeasured valuePoints
Visibility rate38%11.4
Share of voice24%3.6
Citation rate12%1.2
Rankaverage rank 2.4, i.e. a factor of 0.72; presence coefficient of 0.765.5
Tonemostly positive, i.e. a factor of 0.8; presence coefficient of 0.763.0
Technical readiness27 points out of 3027.0
Score52 out of 100

The technical audit

The technical audit checks that your website is ready to be read, understood and cited. It reads your website directly, without using AI.

CheckPoints
AI crawler access in the robots.txt file8
Indexing in Google and Bing6
Content readable without JavaScript5
Structured data: Organization, LocalBusiness, Product, FAQPage…5
Content that is easy to cite: direct answers, FAQs, freshness, named authors4
Language versions correctly declared, awarded automatically for a single-language website1
llms.txt file: accessible, with a title, valid links, listed pages public and indexable1

The llms.txt file carries little weight: its effect on AI answers has yet to be demonstrated, and Google says it doesn't need it. Setting it up takes about ten minutes, which is why it is part of the audit, with this light weighting.

The recommendations

  1. An AI writes them for your website, starting from what iasyo has detected: your platform, its version, your theme, your plugins, your structured data.
  2. It chooses from a library of actions built from official documentation, and cites the source of each piece of advice.
  3. It consults your platform's documentation at the time of writing, to point you to the right menus and settings.
  4. A second AI reviews each recommendation, and the code produced is checked automatically.
  5. A iasyo expert approves each recommendation within 24 working hours, edits it if needed, then it appears in your client area with the label “Written by AI, approved by a iasyo expert”.
  6. The next measurement checks the fix on your website, and iasyo rewrites the recommendation if it isn't in place yet.

The 3 recommendations in the free audit are produced automatically, for a result in 2 minutes.

The scope of the measurement

iasyo measures your presence in AI answers and the technical readiness of your website. Your positions in Google's traditional results and the links from other websites are tracked in Google Search Console and traditional SEO tools, which complement iasyo very well.

Changes to the method

AI platforms change fast, and the method keeps pace. Each change is dated here, with its effect on the score. When a change alters the calculation, your past scores are recalculated using the new method, so they remain comparable.

History: 18 October 2026 – first version of the method.

Frequently asked questions about SEO, AI and GEO measurement

How can I check my AI visibility?

Ask AI platforms your customers' questions, several times, and note who they mention, in what position and based on which sources. iasyo does this for you on ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Google's AI Overviews, then sums it all up in a score out of 100, tracked over time.

How do I know if ChatGPT cites my website?

Ask it your customers' questions and look at the sources it shows. In your website analytics, the tag “utm_source=chatgpt.com” shows that ChatGPT is already recommending some of your pages. The iasyo free audit runs this test in 2 minutes on 4 AI assistants.

Why does my score change from one measurement to the next?

AI answers vary, your website and your competitors' websites change, and the AI platforms themselves evolve. That's why each question is asked several times at each measurement. To judge progress, look at the trend over several weeks.

Why does ChatGPT answer differently when I ask it myself?

ChatGPT adapts its answers to each user: history, preferences, location. iasyo queries it without any personal history, in your language and from your country, several times per question. Its measurement therefore reflects what a new customer sees.

Who chooses the questions asked to AI platforms?

An AI works them out from your website, then you approve them before the first measurement. You can then adjust them from your client area once a month, for example when you launch a new service.

Are the recommendations written by an AI?

Yes, for your website, based on actions taken from official documentation. A second AI reviews them, then a iasyo expert approves them within 24 working hours before they appear in your client area.

Is the free audit score calculated the same way as the monitoring score?

Yes, with the same formula, on 4 AI assistants and 5 questions. Monitoring measures more questions, adds Google's AI Overviews and repeats the measurement every week or every month: its score is more detailed, and it shows how you are progressing.
